Before and After...

Choosing and cutting fabric
I came downstairs this morning to this terrible sight in my living room.... I've only used a tiny photo in an attempt to cover up my shame, but it's still pretty terrifying isn't it ?!

This is pretty much what happens every time I put together a patchwork block. For this particular block - a Log Cabin pattern - I needed 4 co-ordinating lights & 4 co-ordinating darks, and first I had to decide which shades I had to use. Blues and greens maybe? Purples and greens? Reds & purples? Then I had to come up with enough fabric each of my chosen colours. And that, of course, meant getting out practically my entire fabric stash, unfolding it, trying different combinations, then trying more different combinations..... well, you get the picture.

It's all tidied away now and, best of all - it came out happily in the end:

My finished log cabin block

That so pretty, it was worth the mess! I think you did a great job picking out contrasting fabrics and getting them to get darker as they go out from the centre, it's not easy!

Well thank goodness for that! I was beginning to think it was just me! Whenever I see photo's of other crafters work areas they always look so neat and tidy...unlike my work area...which spreads right across my 3 seater sofa, my little coffee/craft table and my ironing board! I'm often glad when a prodject is finished just so that I can tidy it all away.

Thank you for sharing your mess with us! :)

A tidy craft area is an unused craft area. Every time I tidy up I love the results but the moment I start crafting everything ends up EVERYWHERE! Glad to know I'm not the only one ;o)

Oh and lovely log cabin pattern too!!

Love, love, love your log cabin, the colour placement is fab, I bet it looks really stunning from a distance!
p.s. I always feel more of a 'conection' to someone who has a messy work area, I find something un-nerving about tidy people :)

It was definitely worth the mess, the colours are fab! I have a very untidy work area - so bad that I need to move things to actually do any work. That can't be good. :-D

Lol! Thought you must have snuck into my house - my stash gets similarly spread and try as I might I cannot evolve a system of seeing it all and keeping it ordered!
Love the block - very rich!
